HeyRoomie is a vibrant community initiative designed to solve the everyday challenge of finding the perfect flatmate, flat, or PG roommate in busy Indian cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and more. We understand how tough it can be to connect with people who share your vibe, whether it's your love for chai, late-night study sessions, or a quiet living space. Our mission is to bring people together, turning the stress of housing into a journey of belonging with our tagline, "Where Living Meets Belonging."

We're starting this journey by building a community on WhatsApp, where you can join groups based on cities (e.g., Bangalore, Mumbai) and dive into sub-categories (e.g., Koramangala, Bandra) to chat, share tips, and find your ideal housing match. This is a space to connect, discuss, and support each other in making urban living easier and more enjoyable.

By joining our WhatsApp community or engaging with HeyRoomie, you agree to this Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines. If you disagree, please do not participate. We may update these documents, with changes posted here, and your continued participation signifies acceptance.

Privacy Policy

At HeyRoomie, we care about your privacy and are committed to keeping your personal information safe as you connect with others. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data in our WhatsApp community and future services. We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and respect your rights. 1. Information We Collect

We collect data to help you connect and build your housing community. This includes:

• Account and Profile Data (Provided by You): Name and phone number (required for WhatsApp join). Optional details you share: Age range, gender, interests (e.g., "Veg Food," "Night Owl"), housing preferences (e.g., flatmate type, budget range like ₹5k-50k), and location (e.g., Bangalore-Koramangala).
• Community Data (Shared by You): Messages, photos, or files you post in WhatsApp groups (e.g., flat pics, move-in tips). Group interactions (e.g., who you chat with, topics discussed).
• Usage Data (Automatically Collected): Basic info like join date, active hours, and device type (via WhatsApp analytics, anonymized).

We do not collect sensitive details like exact addresses or financial data unless you voluntarily share them (and we encourage using private chats for such info).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

• Connect you with others: Match you to relevant city/sub-category groups (e.g., Mumbai-Bandra).
• Support the community: Share housing advice, organize discussions, and highlight helpful tips.
• Improve the experience: Understand group activity (anonymized) to grow the community.
• Communicate: Send welcome messages or updates via WhatsApp (opt-out available).
• Ensure safety: Moderate content with admins to keep discussions respectful.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your data. Sharing is limited to:

• WhatsApp Admins: Our team moderates groups and may access messages to enforce guidelines.
• Group Members: Data you share (e.g., name, messages) is visible to others in your group.
• Legal: Shared with authorities if required (e.g., under DPDP Act for illegal activity).
• Service Providers: WhatsApp for hosting, analytics (anonymized).

Avoid sharing private details publicly; use direct chats for sensitive info.

4. Data Security

We rely on WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption for message security. Admins monitor for safety but do not store data long-term. Report issues to admins or support@heyroomie.in. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Rights and Choices

Under DPDP Act:

• Access/Leave: View your shared data in groups; leave any time (group exit removes you).
• Opt-Out: Mute notifications or leave groups to stop updates.
• Delete: Request data removal (up to 30 days, subject to WhatsApp retention). Contact support@heyroomie.in for requests (response within 30 days).

6. Children's Privacy

HeyRoomie is for 18+ only. No data collection from children.

7. Changes to Policy

Updates posted here with date. Major changes notified via WhatsApp or email.

Community Guidelines

HeyRoomie's WhatsApp community is a welcoming space to talk about housing—finding flatmates, flats, or PGs in cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, and their sub-areas (e.g., Koramangala, Bandra). We aim to create a supportive environment where everyone feels they belong. All members must follow these guidelines; violations may lead to warnings, message deletion, or removal. Report issues to group admins via support@heyroomie.in

1. Be Respectful and Inclusive

• Treat all members with kindness—no harassment, hate speech, or discrimination (e.g., based on gender, caste, religion).
• Use positive language; avoid stereotypes (e.g., no "student mess" jabs).
• No spam, self-promotion, or unrelated ads.

2. Keep It Relevant

• Discuss housing topics: flatmate preferences, flat availability, PG tips, move-in advice, polls (e.g., "Best budget PG in Hyderabad?").
• Stay on-topic for your group/sub-category (e.g., no Mumbai chats in Bangalore-Koramangala).
• No off-topic content (e.g., politics, sales pitches).

3. Be Honest and Safe

• Share accurate info (e.g., no fake flat listings).
• Avoid public personal details (e.g., full addresses, phone numbers)—use private chats.
• No scams, illegal offers, or harmful content.

4. Engage Positively

• Share helpful advice or questions (e.g., "Any good Koramangala flats?").
• Avoid arguments; report issues to admins.
• Polls: Keep fair and housing-related.

5. Enforcement

• Moderation: Admins and AI (via WhatsApp tools) monitor; reports handled within 24 hours.
• Consequences: First offense: Warning/message removal. Repeat: Temporary mute (7 days). Severe: Permanent ban.
• Appeals: Email support@heyroomie.in with details.
• Premium Members: Same rules apply; no special exemptions.

6. WhatsApp Group Management Details

• Group Structure: Main city groups (e.g., Bangalore, Mumbai) with up to 1,024 members each (WhatsApp limit). Sub-categories within each city (e.g., Bangalore-Koramangala, Mumbai-Bandra) with up to 256 members for focused discussions. New groups created as needed when limits are reached (e.g., Bangalore-2, Koramangala-2).
• Joining Process: Link shared via heyroomie.in or social media (e.g., X posts). Admins approve joins to maintain quality; verification via phone number. Invitation-only for sub-categories after joining a city group.
• Admin Roles: 2-5 admins per group, trained to moderate, answer queries, and manage member lists. Admins can mute (up to 7 days), remove, or add members, with logs kept for 30 days. Escalation to community@heyroomie.in for complex issues.
• Member Responsibilities: Introduce yourself upon joining (e.g., "Hi, I'm Priya from Koramangala looking for a flatmate!"). Respect group limits; avoid flooding with messages (max 10/day recommended). Report spam or violations to admins via WhatsApp or email.
• Group Rules Enforcement: Daily checks by admins at 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM IST. Weekly summary shared (e.g., "50 new members, 3 warnings issued") in a pinned message. Inactive members (no activity in 30 days) may be removed to free space.
